This last week our chapter volunteered through Hokie Helpers to help with the move-in of students at Virginia Tech. Brothers volunteered for four hours and provided much needed help for the families and students moving in for this fall. From dragging a cart of dorm supplies halfway across campus, to moving more stuff than it seems could fit in a dorm room up three flights of stairs in one trip, our chapter did some much appreciated and diligent work. This volunteering also gave brothers the opportunity to engage with students and families regarding the chapter and the Balanced Man Scholarship. As most of these students are Freshmen, it allowed us to find the best men on campus and get them within the scholarship or recruitment pipeline early in their college experience. Interactions through volunteering bring our fraternity to the eyes of new students and returning students alike, which expands our overall impact on the community. Beyond the work and added benefits, as balanced men our brothers see volunteering as essential in continued growth as balanced men. Hokie Helpers marks the beginning of this semester of volunteering, which has started before classes have even begun.
