As the 2021-’22 school year is nearing a close, we are continuing to work on building our brotherhood through our year-round informal recruitment offering. Our chapter recognizes the importance of growing brotherhood by all means, and we’ve found success in reaching out to friends of the brotherhood at times where most fraternities aren’t recruiting others. This year, we’ve recruited twelve new brothers through informal recruitment, with a list of others in the recruitment pipeline currently.
Often, we engage ourselves with these potential new brothers, or PNBs as they’re often referred to, through informal recruitment events. These events vary as to when and what they are, but all of which emphasize getting these “rushes” familiarized with our brothers. Similar to how the Interfraternity Council at Virginia Tech’s formal recruitment period, these guys are informed of what days we are hosting events, with members of our recruitment committee reaching out to them with consistent communication to get their interest in our chapter. We hosted a chili cook off at Center Street, our normal tailgating spot, with our brothers competing against one-another to see who’s the better chef. Later in the Fall semester, we had a similar if not greater turnout of both active and potential new brothers at a Roanoke Rail Yard Dogs hockey game, where potential new brothers got the opportunity to hang out with active members while enjoying a game.
In total, between Summer, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022, our chapter recruited over 56 new brothers, more than doubling our size as a chapter. As we glance ahead to this Fall ’22 formal recruitment period, we are looking to keep the momentum going strong by continuing to recruit guys here at Virginia Tech that are looking for the SigEp experience of virtue, diligence and brotherly love.
