Across the country, chapters are bringing more men into the SigEp experience. Here, some of the many chapters that exceeded their recruitment goals in fall 2022 and spring 2023 proudly share photos of their new members and their most successful recruitment strategies.
“To ensure our success this past spring and summer, we connected with potential new members early to create a good first impression. I believe showing we truly care about new brothers and creating a diverse personality pool within our chapter is why we were able to sign 71 new members.” — Wesley Cupp, Oklahoma ’25 (former vice president of recruitment)
Oklahoma Beta is the largest chapter on campus.
“Our chapter’s goal was to recruit 19 new members, and we ultimately welcomed 29. Our recruitment team utilized many of the SigEp recruitment tools available to us, and every brother in our chapter made an impact by reaching out and building relationships with potential new members across campus.” — Jack Bach, Northwestern ’26 (vice president of recruitment)
“We focused on our connections on campus, with other organizations and our Balanced Man Scholarship applicants. In addition, every brother is in a club or organization. “After months of preparation, we recruited 16 new members for spring 2023. All of the brothers understood the importance of our recruitment goals and the chapter’s future.” — Nathan Lampres, Marquette ’24 (former chapter president)
“Being a new chapter on a campus that already has a number of well-established chapters was extremely difficult. We figured the best way to stand out was to be different. We utilized 365-day recruitment by holding biweekly recruitment events around our campus and putting up flyers with a QR code to our interest form.” — Luke Jones, Boise State ’26 (vice president of recruitment)
Excitement is in the air as the chapter is nearing closer and closer to taking back the Oak Lane house. The move-in process will be quite the effort, as ensuring that it is exceptional for the 35 brothers living there and all other brothers before the start of the Fall ‘23 semester is easier said than done. As with any move-in effort, a housewarming party is a must, and the undergraduates and AVC board recognize this wholeheartedly. To commemorate the chapter’s long awaited return to our Oak Lane chapter house, and in the spirit of 53+ years of the Virginia Kappa brotherhood, the weekend of October 13 to October 15 will be an alumni reunion weekend like no other. Set during Virginia Tech’s homecoming weekend, the kickoff event on Friday, October 13 will be an informal dinner event at the chapter house from 4 - 8 pm EST; more details to follow. With a Saturday, October 14 home game against Wake Forest University, the brothers will gather to tailgate both by Cassell Coliseum and at Center Street. Sunday will hold a brief window of opportunity for any last-minute tours of the host for any brothers interested.
This three-day long period will be a celebration of all who have made our brotherhood what it is today, from 1970 to now. To those that haven’t set foot in Blacksburg since you walked the graduation stage, and to those that find themselves relieving the good ‘ol days in maroon & orange at every home game, we want you there this October to celebrate. This is our opportunity to move forward together, this is our return back to the chapter house. This truly is home, and will be for generations of brothers; past, present and future. Further details about Friday's event will be shared in the coming month. Expect food, laughs, and brotherly love all around as we celebrate the largest Virginia Kappa brotherhood in the history of our chapter’s success in securing our house back.
This semester, we introduced 4 new sweethearts to the brotherhood. Through their help with different projects – such as painting banners, aiding in recruitment, and promoting our Flex Out Hunger philanthropy – they have become a big help within the fraternity. We are proud to have them be a part of our chapter.
Our 4 new sweethearts are Mandi Kendrick who is a sister of Gamma Phi Beta, Hannah Rivera who is a sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Jenna Sprigman who is a sister of Alpha Delta Pi, and Katie Waugh who is a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha.
